Function (8) - Video / Action for Goldenrod

[ladywithnovoice]

[Red doesn't use video very often. When you're mute, it's generally a null point. Today, however, there's a flicker of text- ]

I've been working on something. Let me know what you think.

[And video suddenly comes to life.]

[After making sure Spark the Mismagius is holding up the Pokegear properly, Red steps away. Staying in a city again has given her cause to dress up nicely once more, makeup applied and Boxer's battered jacket draped over a simple light blouse. That's by far the least interesting aspect about the scene she's in front of, however.]

[Behind her are her Pokemon, arranged with a variety of musical instruments. A Gardevoir is adjusting an electric guitar around her shoulders, while a Sylveon blinks open one sleepy eye from his stool by a harp. A Chikorita waves with one vine to the camera, using the other to hold up a Mandolin, and behind it a Blaziken is awaiting eagerly at a drum set. In the middle of it all, Switch the Chatot is on a perch preening.]

[All of this on a little section of sidewalk in Goldenrod. It's a nice set up, with Red having taken all morning to get it ready.]

[The woman in question goes over to an electric piano, takes a breath, and whistles. Well practiced, the Pokemon begin to play. Rousing herself, Switch begins to sing, her voice rising up beautifully in a mimicry of her trainer's lost one.]

I see the lights
dance on the bay
All of the dark falls away

A glow from the heights
glances along the water's skin
Nimble and bright, swallowed in

I'm always breathless to see
growing so slowly to greet me
where I end and where she begins...

[Switch sings to the end of the song, wing stretching out as she revels in the performance, but soon the notes fade away. Spark flicks off the gear, and her clumsy text comes next.]

Some Pokemon have a natural talent for it. Chatot can mimic any sound they hear.

[She won't mention this was a free show.]

It's easier for some than the others. I think the Onix I took in feels a little left out, but unfortunately there's not a lot of instruments that can withstand a giant rock snake.

[Ashley doesn't think about why the woman would be using text...nor does she completely understand how a Pokémon sang like a human, but that's neither here nor there right now.]

That was absolutely beautiful. [Breathless, almost in awe.] It- it sounded so-- did you write that?

[Just as at the start, the reply comes through text.]

I did. I write all my own songs.

Well it was- well, pure poetry! Good poetry, astoundingly good. And I had no idea Pokémon could be a band either. ...Or sing. You've taught all of them so well.

That was beautiful. Anyone could tell you've spent a lot of time and effort on this. Are there going to be repeat performances?

I'm thinking about it. The last time I did a big performance, something went wrong. However, it's been years now, and this is different. I think I'm ready for this sort of thing again.

If you bring other Pokémon to serve as assistants, I'm sure they could keep an eye out for any technical mishaps. With their help, I'm sure everything would go well.

It's a shame I can only have so many Pokemon with me at once. I guess I'll have to start finding a Psychic-type that's willing to learn.

[Ah. It's been a while since he's seen or 'heard' from this woman, and hearing a voice that sounds like hers again is a bit of a surprise.

More than just a bit, really.]

You must have been training your Pokemon for some time for them to be able to do that.

[Of course, it always has to come back to Pokemon. Because...it isn't like he cares or anything.]

[Since the Pokemon are the stars of the show, Red won't take any offense.]

It took less time than you might think. Pokemon are just as smart as humans when you get down to it. You simply have to find the ones that are interested and won't fall asleep on you.

Having a Psychic type as a teaching assistant is helpful too.

[Nagi would argue that they're smarter in some cases, but that's neither here nor there.]

That's not surprising. Psychics do tend to be the smarter ones, don't they?

I'm no expert, so I'll pass on making that judgment call. I think it's easy to believe, however. Their power does come from their mind. I'd imagine there's some correlation, probably.
