When I was still studying, my first Selection was of course in Music. Some of you probably aren't surprised after talking with me. However, my second Selection was in Language. I suppose that's why I've noticed that most Pokemon species' names are really just clever wordplay.

Electrike is an easy example. It has something to do with "electric".

Staravia is likely based off of the words "starling", which is a type of bird, and "avian". Don't ask me if they even know what a starling is here, but it's what makes the most sense.

I could go on.

With all of these new Pokemon, however, we don't really know what they're called if anything. For ease of conversation, I've been coming up with a few names myself. I haven't quite been able to decide between "Sapphare" and "Carbun" for those little rock rabbits, but Greed and I decided on "Impecho" for those bats that were in Violet a while ago.

Have any of you come up with names for some of these new Pokemon? Alternatively, you could always challenge me to make up a name for one if you're having trouble deciding what to call it. It's actually been rather fun coming up with names.

Well, I've tried coming up with names. It's just tough figuring out what kind of puns make sense for these guys. Some Pokémon names are kinda on the silly side, but I don't want to make them too tacky.

For the lucha birds, I was thinking Luchawk. Lucha + hawk, plus it's short and sweet. For the icicle guys, I've been using Chillagmite. Been calling the cats Psycats. Still kinda stuck on what to call the frogs, though.

I mean, they're blue frogs with bubbles around their necks. That doesn't really lend itself to puns.

Those are all really clever. I'll have to remember them myself.

I haven't seen these frogs yet... But with the description you've come up with, how about... Tadbubble? Bublynx? Voculla? That last one is cheating a little bit with Latin, but still.

Voculla, huh? So what's the Latin part of it mean?

I quite fondly call my little green goats Ledge Leapers.

I think people take to that better than Glory Goats. I frightened a few people with how excited I got over them so I decided to dial it back a bit.

Good to hear. If it makes you feel better, Glory Goats has its own kind of charm.

I couldn't think of anything that sounded good with Ram.

Yeah, I got a name for 'em. "Assholes".

Hell no. There hasn't been a damn one of these things that hasn't proven itself to be a pain in my ass. D'you have any idea how much broken glass I've cleaned up just over the past two days?

Yeah. And that's just 'cause of those freaky little psychic cats alone. Seriously, I'm surprised the guy running the hotel hasn't kicked me out, the way these bastards've been tearing the place up.

I guess if I had to give one of 'em a proper name, though, I'd call the little bird wrestler things Featherweights. Y'know, like the weight class?

Yeah, exactly! They use it in kickboxing and MMA too. You into combat sports?

Just a little bit. I never got into kickboxing and MMa, but boxing I know. Do you do any of those, or are you just a fan too?

Nah, I got my own style of kicking ass. I know all about boxing and other forms of fighting, though. I grew up watching matches on TV.

[And recording said matches on video tape. And accumulating ridiculous amounts of combat sports magazines and merchandise. And memorizing obscure and/or useless trivia pertaining to combat sports.

Basically, he's a little obsessed. You know. Just a smidge. No wonder talking about this was enough to put him in a good mood all of the sudden...]

A style all your own, huh? I know a little bit about that, although I'm not much of a fist fighter myself.

How would you describe your style, then?

Sounds simple, but that's the point, right?

Exactly. Strategies and fancy techniques are great and all, but the way I look at it is, if someone's coming at you and you wanna get out alive, it's better to know how to improvise than it is to know a bunch of complicated kicks. Keeps the other guy from getting the jump on you.

What about you? You said you weren't much of a fist fighter, but do you fight another way? Like maybe with weapons or something?

I can't argue with that. Thinking quick on my feet is what got me through a lot back home.

Me? It's a bit complicated... But at the end of the day, it was a sword. [There's something of a pause, more noticeable than her usual ones when she's thinking of what to say.] It was something my boyfriend managed to give me. I guess you could say it had a bit of him in it, so it became really important to me.

As far as species names go, I've just been going with the simplest things I can think of. Grass-goats, for example.

But it seems kind of weird. How can they get "Staravia" if they don't even know what a starling is? It can't just be a ridiculous coincidence that so many Pokémon share similar names to animals we all know. Even that we have similar names for things, in spite of our different worlds, is something to think about.

It really is strange... But they surely must have creatures that aren't Pokemon here somewhere.

It's the only way I think I'll be able to eat anything here, thinking that.

If they are somewhere, I haven't seen them, yet.

Well, we haven't seen most of these new Pokemon so this world is obviously still full of surprises.

That's true.

But I think I just became a vegetarian, in the meantime.

Actually, something just came to mind. What if they use artificial meat?

Possible, I guess. Maybe that's something we ought to look into.

It would explain why we haven't seen any animals that could be farmed, and I doubt anyone here has ever gotten interested in something as mundane as food factories so probably not too many people would know.

I can't even pretend to understand how society holds itself up around here, anyway. There seem to be more people playing around with Pokémon than working at any given time.

Just another mystery, I guess.

They pile up a lot faster than we can solve them, it seems.

Sometimes it's alright to leave them unsolved, I think.

As long as there's no danger in it, I think you're right.

Hmmmmmmmmm... with that logic, would those psychic cats that showed up everywhere at the start of the month be "Psykits" or something? [ Makoto... ]

Well, I think so! "Carbun" was a pretty cute idea of yours, too, by the way.
Do we even know where all these new Pokemon are coming from yet...? I mean, they can't really just be showing up out of thin air. Can they??

I don't think so, but don't some animals go other places when it starts getting cold enough? It's possible they're just passing through on their way to somewhere else.

Oh yeah, like migration! I guess that could be it. Still, it's a pretty wide range of types, isn't it?

It really is, and in all sorts of different places as well. It seems like it's something new even for a place like this.

Though I guess when you think about it, it's really not any weirder than people from completely different worlds showing up all the time.

Well, I guess it was worth asking just to check.
Anyway, maybe all these new Pokemon will be an easier mystery to solve!
