Some Pokemon can be really hard to find, can't they? I spent all day yesterday hoping that one in particular would let me find them, but it's harder than it looks.

I guess they can't all be eager.

Since I've been performing to an empty set for so long, maybe I'll let this performance be a bit more public.

Take 53.

[The post suddenly changes to video as Red sets it up against her backpack. Anyone looking past her might be able to recognize the dim layout of Union Cave at one of the many pools about. This one seems to be one of the largest, water disappearing into the darkness ahead past the little camp Red has set up.]

[There's a Chatot perched on her should as she goes to sit by the water's edge. After a few moments, some humming starts to echo throughout the cavern. It's a duet, the Chatot seeming to 'hum' along with.]

[Off in the darkness, something seems to shift it and makes the water ripple towards the shoreline.]

[Red's reply might come a bit late.]

Has your daddy tried to talk with Clair about dragons? Maybe a shared interest could help them get closer.

Thanks for the tip, but it's been a long time since I thought about Clair like that. I don't think my girlfriend would approve, either.

Oops! Heh.

Well, that's good to hear. Does your girlfriend like dragons too, then?

[If he weren't so into dragons, he'd probably be embarrassed that this was the line of questioning.]

She does! She's one of the best dragon riders we've got, back where we come from.

[ladywithnovoice]

So they have dragons back where you're from too? That's amazing. There's nothing like them in Cloudbanks except in movies and things like that.

I hear that's a common problem with a lot of other worlds. At least there are dragons here for everyone. They're different, but still good.

[ladywithnovoice]

I've only heard about the ones here. It seems like I've mostly amassed lots of dogs myself.

Dogs are pretty good too, though my own is a bad example of their loyalty. He'd rather ignore me, I think.

What types have you gotten since coming here?

[ladywithnovoice]

They can't all be the rescuing loyal types you see on the television, I suppose.

I started out with an Electrike- she's all grown up now. I got a Growlithe for myself, and then my traveling partner got me another one. At least it makes for cozy nights, right?

You'll be even more grateful for them come winter. As soft as they are, I don't think I could take that kind of extra heat these days.

[ladywithnovoice]

Are the winters here that bad? I've never actually experienced a real one.

[berkthorn]

I like them just fine, but the weather's pretty harsh back home. As hot as it is here in summer, that's how cold its winters will be.

[ladywithnovoice]

So you don't decide the weather there by vote either, sounds like. Funny the things you take for granted until you're taken somewhere completely new.

[berkthorn]

By vote? Were the gods of your world really so democratic about those things?

[Odin and Thor are cool, don't get him wrong, but no amount of statues would let the people of Berk decide on the weather.]

[ladywithnovoice]

I wouldn't know anything about Gods. This was something people did.

I'm confused. You can control the weather where you're from?

[ladywithnovoice]

It sounds really impressive when you put it like that.

People would just vote on things. Did you want a bridge to be built to another part of the city? Vote on it. Did you want it to snow? Vote. Did you want a park to be built somewhere? Vote.

If there were enough votes on anything, the administrators would go through them all and help make it happen. It was all technology, really.

The person I'm traveling with, Royce Bracket, was an architect and an engineer. He helped design and construct a lot of the structures in Cloudbank.

To be fair, you're making it sound really impressive, too. Some of those ideas are familiar to be -- the chief and village counsel take care of needs as they arise as long as it's within their means. For weather, the best we can do is try to predict it, and for that we're at the mercy of a woman reading bones and a man wearing a bucket on his head.

Is it real weather, when you vote on it? What happens to the rain or sunshine that would have happened naturally?

It's the only "real" I've ever known. Weather like this is completely unknown to me.

Royce might have a better idea... That's more his area of expertise.

[berkthorn]

I might have to ask him sometime, if you think he wouldn't mind that. You never know, with scientist types.

[Said fondly, not that that really comes through in text. He had a bit of a soft spot for grumpy scientists, thanks to old friends.]

Things haven't been too bad for you here, right? I know it takes some time to adjust, and it sounds like your world was a little more different than I thought.

Don't worry. It's his favorite subject. Maybe having someone who wants to listen would help to ease him up. He's not as social as I am.

It's... definitely been new. It's been difficult to rough things out at first, but I think we're getting the hang of it. There was nothing like this in Cloudbank. It reminded me a lot of the Country at first when things cleared up.
