Function (1) - Text/Action for Route 29

[Eventually, after punching Royce and a couple one sided conversations and getting the hang of battling before anything else, Red finally discovers her own 'Gear has a text function. She actually types a lot... It's just that none of it really goes through, every line deleted. There's so much to say, she doesn't even know where to start.]

[Well... Royce is on information gathering duty, as much as he hates talking with people, so she finally decides to go with something more mundane.]

I don't know who voted for all the rain, but I don't suppose anyone wants to let a lady borrow an umbrella? [A pause before she adds-] Or a pack of cigarettes.

[And because she can't help herself...]

As for these Pokemon, are there any kind that can sing? Or any more dogs. I wouldn't mind another if I could figure out where to find one.

[For anyone in New Bark or on the route itself, they'll be able to see Red along it along with an Electrike that's constantly chasing Pokemon out of the tall grass. They're both actually rather quiet, but she's quick to look up when she realizes there's someone else nearby. Well... Someone besides Royce, who's nearby as wel and who she's also keeping an eye on.]

Chatot, the Iglybuff line, the Cleffa line, the Skitty line, the Swablu line, the Happiny line and the Minccino line can all sing. There's probably others, too. For dogs, you can start with Houndour, Growlithe, Snubbull or Lillipup.

[Getting a whole list of names just like that is surely very helpful and not at all confusing.]

I'd offer my umbrella, but unless you're in the vicinity of Mahogany the rain will have stopped long before you get it.

A parrot. A chatty parrot. Very good singers, and even better at reciting lines from action movies when you're trying to sleep.

[Or stereotypical pirate talk. How nice.]

You will, unless you have a Pokémon large enough for you to ride or a friend that can fly you around. But once you reach the first town, you can buy more supplies and sleep with a roof over your head.

I do. Not the best battler around, but he makes up for it in personality.

They sure do. You can get horses, gigantic rock snakes, cows and buffaloes... If it's large and patient enough, someone around here is using it to travel.

[Well if anything gets his attention, it's the Electrike that this woman has with her. It gets Leader's attention, too, but Jimmy decides to respond with a text message regardless. Potential discussions of "hey wow you got Electrike as your starter too that's awesome" can come some other time.]

Well if it's dogs you're looking for, I have a Houndoom that evolved from a Houndour! They're doglike, like Electrike is.

[He hasn't quite acquired any Pokemon that sing yet, but ah well.]

The luckier you are with your starter, the more trouble you get from the ones that follow, from my experience.

Swablu and Growlithe both get relatively big when they evolve. An evolved Swablu would allow you to fly, which would cut down most of your travel time, but you'd need a particular HM and badge for that. Evolved Growlithes can only run, but at least they can do so the moment they get used to their new legs.

Well he can be a little grouchy sometimes, but he's real nice once you get to know him!

[He's...quite similar to his namesake, let's put it that way.]

Most of them do, but a few need to touch special stones or to be traded to other people for a time. But battle experience never hurts anyway.

The badges are proof that you've defeated sixteen of the most powerful local Pokémon trainers. They also come with perks, such as discounts in store or enable Pokémon to fly or surf the waves with human riders.

...Yes, I know that doesn't make much sense.

Apparently it is, in some places. But none of the games I've played before have ever left me dripping wet at six on a Monday morning, trying to unlock my door after going out to buy cat food.

Cats tend to cause stories with their very existence, but let's just say that cats that also happen to have the power to create money from thin air and throw it at you can afford to be even more demanding than the average feline.

There's a lot of...well, everything!

You're prolly in New Bark town right now, right? If so, you should catch a Sentret! They look kinda like brown raccoons with big ears.

I caught him in Goldenrod City! Though he was a Houndour, back then. He evolved to Houndoom later.

I guess you could say that! It's the biggest city that I know of in Johto, anyway.
